Artisan Supports The 2nd International Scout Troop In Raising Awareness About Global Water and Sanitation Efforts
MARKHAM, ON - July 11, 2007 – Marking the 100th anniversary of Scouts Canada, the 2nd International Troop based out of Calgary, Alberta got involved with CAWST, a Canadian non-profit organization that provides training and technical consulting in water and sanitation to organizations that serve those who do not have access to clean drinking water in developing countries. Through this project the troop constructed a biosand filter and incorporated it into a display about water awareness, in hopes of educating people about water treatment methods.
“In most developing countries most children die before they reach five years of age due to the lack of clean drinking water,” stated Scott Suvanto, leader of the 2nd International Calgary troop. “We want to help them [CAWST] to help others, and this initiative allows us to spread awareness about this important cause.”
The biosand filter, a simple, effective household water treatment technology, consists of a concrete container, enclosing layers of sand and gravel whose purpose is to eliminate pathogens from water. Placed inside the homes of developing nations in areas where food is prepared, the filter provides 0.6 liters of water per minute. Of the three filters built by the troop, two will be used at a nearby scout nature learning centre in addition to a training program on what people can do so they don’t pollute the environment. The display made will be showcased at the upcoming 2007 Centennial Project Scout Jamboree in England; a chance for the scouts to network and share their knowledge with 3,500 other youths in attendance.
Artisan contributed to the project by building the cloroplast display, a replication of the filter framework and a tool that houses information on water awareness. Artisan is proud to participate in such an innovative and proactive solution to environmental challenges.

MARKHAM - May 23, 2007 – As part of the must-attend conference and tradeshow for the Canadian marketing industry, Artisan was presented with the Best Product Display honour for showcasing the organizations capabilities in retail merchandising strategy, products and services.
“For more than 30 years, Artisan has worked with brands, retailers and agencies to provide retail communications solutions that help them display and promote products to consumers. Artisan Complete Supports Students in the FIRST Robotics Competition
MARKHAM - March 30, 2007 – Artisan Complete provided sponsor decals to the Unionville High School Robotics Team (UHSRT) this year, as they competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).
The annual event challenges teams of high school students from around the globe to solve a problem using a standard kit and common set of rules in a six week time period. Teams build robots from the parts and this year they competed in a Rack N’ Roll game. The objective was to place as many game pieces in vertical or horizontal rows as possible on a central goal structure. Teams are rewarded for excellence in design, team spirit, professionalism and maturity, and their ability to overcome obstacles.
The hardest thing in creating the robot according to one UHSRT member was, “coming up with a design that was plausible and efficient, yet simplistic enough to build with the resources that we were given.”
After competing in regional events, winning teams move on to the Championship in Atlanta where they compete against approximately 350 groups. Since forming in 1995, the UHSRT has won numerous honours including the coveted President’s Award in 1999.
“Artisan Complete is always happy to assist as part of their ongoing efforts to support those in the local community,” states Director, Sales & Marketing Kris Matheson. “This was a great competition that fosters creativity, innovation and academic excellence for the hard working and talented students involved.”
Being socially responsible is one of Artisan Complete’s core values and its employees give generously on a regular basis through charitable donations and participation in fundraising events.

Artisan Live Announces Digital Signage Design Competition Award Winner
MARKHAM - March 30, 2007 - Artisan Live in partnership with Ym Inc. (Bluenotes) is pleased to announce the winner in the Digital Signage Design Competition.
The contest offers the winner a flat screen TV, one $500 shopping spree from Bluenotes, the opportunity to have their winning spot shown on the Bluenote's website and the opportunity for an interview for a full-time motion graphics designer position with the Artisan Live team.
The entries or solutions were judged based on their relevance of the solution to the posed challenge, the originality of the solution, the quality of the design, the cost efficiency of solution, the clarity of the message, and the designers' adherence to the Bluenotes' brand. Mike Brown, Managing Director of Artisan Live and Frank Valeriani, Director of Marketing for Bluenotes were the judges of the competition.
"The entries were creative and innovative in their execution and displayed a variety of talent and different perspectives on a single theme", explained Brown. "Overall, we were impressed with the effort put forth by the students.
The contest enabled Bluenotes' target demographic to create the content that would appear on the website where they shopped. It provided a fresh perspective as to how consumers viewed the brand and gave them the power to dictate what information they wanted to see.
Julius Manalo, a 4th year Integrated Media Major with the Ontario College of Art and Design is the winner. Julius animated photos from Bluenotes' Spring Break photo shoot and used quick cuts between shots and a dynamic and bright background to create a sense of aliveness. Floral illustrations and spring colours tied the whole theme together into one cohesive piece.
Judges thought the entry was clever, easy to follow, produced excitement around the Bluenotes brand, and kept in line with the company's style guidelines.
Thank you to all of the contestants who participated in the challenge.

Artisan’s Commitment to Charitable Organizations in the Community Continues to Grow
MARKHAM – March 1, 2007 – Artisan Complete employees have been making an ongoing effort to reach out to those in need. Through charitable donations, the company continues to support Canadian communities and those abroad.
Employees participate in various fundraising activities raising proceeds for numerous charities. Past charities that the employees have chosen to support include the Canadian Cancer Society, Special Olympics, World Wild Life Federation, Make A Wish Foundation, Yellow Brick House (York Region charity), Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Canadian Association for Community Living and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and York Region Food Bank. During the month of December employees supported a community outreach program that distributes gifts to under privileged children and the Yonge Street Mission, which provides meals and essential services to the hungry and homeless in Toronto.
Employees have also shown their support in fundraising events for the Shelter Children Rehab walkathon (Kenya, Africa), Heart and Stroke Foundation and The Canadian Cancer Society, with full proceeds going to these charitable organizations.
Even clients and partners are getting in on the action. This past holiday season, Artisan chose to support the SickKids Foundation as part of their Holiday Card campaign. An overwhelming majority of clients and partners chose to support their efforts to make a donation to SickKids on behalf of Artisan. As one person stated the charitable campaign was “an excellent format for giving, and provides the focus to be on what Christmas is about – giving – not receiving.”
Artisan knows that contributing to worthwhile causes is not only a privilege but a responsibility. A responsibility they respond to as proud supporters of a wide range of local and global charities in the communities where they do business.
