Toronto Shopper Marketing Social — Round One

Last night, I hosted the first Toronto-based Shopper Marketing social on the rooftop patio of The Drake Hotel.

It was packaged and presented as a relaxed forum with no cost of entry. Or, just a good excuse to get together and shoot the breeze with industry colleagues for a cocktail (or two). We look to do this every other month and as the event evolves themes will be applied such as “Portfolio Night” where each company and or designers will be able to present 1 – 2 of their best pieces of work (already in the field). These presentations will allow us to share what has worked, what struggles were had and what retail issues needed to be address as part of the project. By having a Portfolio Night, the talent from our industry will be able to showcase their abilities. In its purest form the event is to be an incubator for new ideas, a forum to communicate openly, and a place to meet and learn from your colleagues.

I’m going to be the first to admit that only using LinkedIn as the means of invitation was a #fail on my part and something I’ll make good on when planning the next event. What was great to see and hear from the small crowd that gathered was that the concept had legs and that we all want to do it again. I’m happy to say we had many branches of the shopper marketing tree represented including shopper insights AC Nielsen, and Rogers Media, agency BBDO Toronto, brand Pepsico Frito Lay and producers Gorrie and At-Shelf Solutions, oh and me.

We all know that anything planned for the summer would be a waste of time as we all head out to the cottage or look to fill our summer evenings with friends and family. With that in mind stay tuned for an invitation for early September as we look to host Round Two. I’m excited about the fall event as today a slew of emails came in requesting that I notify when the next event is taking place. If nothing else the reaction of our initial group and the emails following up today prove there is a place for an event like this.

If you are interested in attending send me an email at kris.m @ artisancomplete.com and I’ll add you to our email list.

Wish I could have made it.
